In large mixing bowl, combine all dry ingredients. Add the milk, vanilla and butter.
Roll out and cut in doughnut shape. Drop in hot oil, turning once, remove when the doughnut becomes golden brown.
Remove to a plate with absorbent paper. Coat with powdered sugar if desired.
