Green beans also known as string beans or pole beans are a traditional family favorite. They are very familiar side dish on the holiday table. It is also a great and tasty dish served over rice.
In a heavy quart pan, add the oil and onions. Cook until onions are translucent.
Add ham bits and cook for another 5 minutes stirring constantly. Add green beans cover and cook on low to simmer for 30 minutes.
Just before you are almost finished, add potatoes and cook for 20 minutes longer.
Serve over rice with fried pork chops, smothered chicken or roasted chicken.
