Cream the shortening and sugar together until fluffy. Add eggs, flour, salt, ginger and cinnamon.
Alternate adding the syrup and water while beating mixture. Add chopped nuts if desired.
Pour into a well buttered pan and bake for 45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the cake comes out clean.
