Mildred’s Fig Cookies

Cajuns love their figs, fig preserves, fig cakes, and fig cookies! This is one of our favorite fig cookie recipes.

Ingredients

  • 1 stick softened butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup fig preserves
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 tsp each nutmeg and cinnamon or more to taste

Directions

Step 1

Cream the sugar, eggs, and butter. Combine with the fig preserves. Combine the flour and baking powder and the optional cinnamon and nutmeg.

Step 2

Gradually add to the flour mixture to the creamed ingredients.

Step 3

Spoon drop cookies on cookie sheet.

Step 4

Bake at 350 degrees until cookie is slightly brown (approximately 20 minutes - check at 15 minutes).

Step 5

1 cup finely chopped pecans may be added to the recipe.
