This recipe is an adaptation of a recipe originally seen on Facebook from Holden, LA – Maw-Maw added some tidbits. The crabs are cooked outside over flames or charcoal and offers a great alternative to boiling
Ingredients
- 2 dozen crabs
- lemon pepper or Cajun seasonings
- butter melted
- garlic butter for dipping
Directions
Step 1
To clean crabs, immerse the crabs in a ice and water. The cold water will immobilize the crab and cause the crab to go in a dormant state.
Step 2
Remove the top shell and clean the crabs
Step 3
Season crabs with lemon pepper and place the crabs bottom down on the grill over low heat
Step 4
Squeeze butter on the crabs or mop with melted butter (melt the butter in a small bowl in your microwave) and cook for 15 minutes
Step 5
Butter will make the meat richer.
Step 6
Flip the crabs and cook for 5 minutes
Step 7
Flip the crabs again, squeeze more butter, and cook an additional 10 minutes
Step 8
Serve with melted garlic butter along with corn and potatoes boiled in seasoned crab boil water. Courtbouillion or catfish stew compliment the dish
